Music and the Food of Love Author: Tanya Robinson   Posted On: 11 Feb 2019

“If music be the food of love, play on!”

Well, DI did just that on a chilly and somewhat rainy evening this Saturday 9th February. And what better way to build up the hype surrounding Valentine’s Day than by hosting the Intra-Club Antakshari. DI has now become a name synonymous with Music! With three musically charged evenings a week Antakshari seemed to be the next best thing for members.

When the date for Antakshari was announced there were many who were eager to participate as individuals or as a team of four. Few decided to sit it out and just be part of what turned out to be an enthralling musical soiree while five teams battled it out for first place – Deewana, Mastana, Dostana, Yarana and Anjana were the very apt names decided by our anchor and fellow member Vijay Singh. Vijay was extremely kind and gracious enough to offer his help to host and organise the event. He had all the teams thinking long and hard – hard more than long actually considering the time factor involved!

Five quick rounds of Geet Gata Chal , Hath Uthao (Video round), Prop round, Antara Mukhda round and the last Bollywood Jodi round had everyone guessing as to who the ultimate winner would be. A generous mix of Bollywood oldies but goldies mixed with the latest hits had all teams putting on their thinking caps. Unfazed by the close competition between teams Vijay ensured everyone was at ease and bringing out their musical best!

The undisputed Winners Sonia Vipani, Jenya Doshi, Pallavi Dani and Ruchi Sheth with seventy points were a group of DI ladies whose knowledge of music and singing skills left everyone in awe. The 1st and 2nd Runner-up were decided, after a keenly contested tie-breaker, by our very able and esteemed judges - Rachna Sharda, an educationist at Sri Sri Academy and Sudipta Shankar Bhaduri,  a man of many interests, judge at pet shows, football, photography and of course music!

Once the formalities of prize distribution were over the stage opened up for some “jamming” as singers and musicians often call it. Simon Orchestra had ensured that they picked up every tune and played it to perfection, thus giving everyone that extra boost while they belted out one song after another.

The prizes – a coffee mug with a mint sapling given to each of the winners to nurture was highly appreciated. Chocolates were for others who impressed. Best Voice-Female was won by Jenya Doshi and Best Voice – Male was won jointly by Kumar Nandy and Krishnan Nair. DI Sitara was won by a young and talented lady from the audience, pictured below.

Another DI event came to a close with a commitment to make it an Annual Event and a promise to host an Inter Club one soon!
