Annual Aquatics Meet Author:Samir Doshi   Posted On:2018-07-17

The Annual Aquatics Competition concluded on Sunday (15 July). Scroll down to see the results!

In the meantime, a small write-up on the competition!

1980, 1983,1986, 2005, 2011.....these are some of the years in which the stalwarts of swimming at DI had created history by setting new records.

Well that history has now become history! On the 15th of July, 2018 all those records created years back were smashed like nine pins at the DI Annual Aquatics!!

Continuing with their record breaking spree from last year a new breed of swimmers is emerging at the DI. These are swimmers who through sheer hard work, skill and under the watchful eyes of the DI coaches are evolving into some of the best swimmers that DI has ever seen. These are kids who have scant regard for history and are creating history of their own.

Shaon Ghosh, Rayd Firoze, Ali Asgar Lokhandwala, Liam Shaw, Prithviraj Kapani are part of this new breed that is creating waves in the pool. Swimmers who know only how to break records...year after year.

And you know that there is more to come when you see three and a half years old Divyansh Kothari leap into the pool from the new state of the art starting blocks to finish his race for kids under 6 years old!!
When little Akshita Moitra who joined the advanced swimming camp only 3 months back wins all her three races you know the future is exciting!!

The annual aquatics 2018 were keenly contested right from the time the entry forms were been filled up. A record number of entries saw a record number of 40 heats being conducted. So tough was the competition that a large number of races on the final day saw winners and runners up being separated by milliseconds!!

There was some respite from the tense races in the form of some fun races introduced last year like the salvage and the tube races.

Apart from the races the audience was kept engaged and entertained by Gary 'O Brien, the emcee for the afternoon, with his trade mark humour. No annual aquatics is complete without Gary on the mike!

A wonderful day of sport at the DI. Kudos to the sports committee for giving their best for the Annual Aquatics.
