Sometimes all you need is to break the routine and have some fun!
DI organised such a fun session for the kids on Saturday February 15, 2020. As 27 kids came together, they were quickly divided into 3 teams – First, Choice and Kings. A series of interesting warm up activities - involving somersaulting among other things - pumped up the energy level of all the excited children as they prepared for the rest of the evening.
The games finally began: Let’s see what they were.
Game 1: Map My Club – So who knows their club the best? The kids had to solve different clues and find out the names of the different areas of the club. Once they had completed, they had to point the locations on the map CORRECTLY. The session got the kids to learn about some new places in the club and they were super excited!
Game 2: Phrases – Remember the times we studied proverbs in school? The game was pretty similar. The seniors in the group had to pick up different phrases and the juniors had the answers to them. So what was the game about? They had to find each other and score points for their teams.
Game 3: Funny Bones – I am sure you guessed what this game is all about ... Yes .. Bones! Two members from each team had to select two cards on which were written names of any two parts/bones of the body. Now is the interesting part – the kids had to physically match the two. The younger kids got bones like shoulder, thigh, hip, while the seniors got the biological names like Scapula, femur, pelvis. The kids had the most fun during this game. And so did I. It was hilarious watching the kids perform.
Game 4: Math Fact Race – Any session will not be complete without some maths fun in it, right? Each team had to complete a grid – the grid had numbers mentioned across the rows and columns which the kids had to add and write it in the given boxes. The kids had a fun time calculating the numbers and team which completed the grid correctly won.
Game 5: Foo Ball League – Two teams played across the table where they had to blow a ball kept at the centre across the other end. The teams which could blow it to the opponents end the maximum number of times won.
The games session concluded with a very interesting and fun activity. All the kids were made to stand in a circle and cards were handed over to each of them. Now, as Uncle Leslie read a story, they had to pass their card to the left or right each time he would utter the word ‘right’ or ‘left’.
After all the games, it was time for the scores. First came 1st with 37 points followed by Choice with 36 points (sooo close) and Kings with 30 points. The winning team celebrated by cutting the delicious and yummy cake from Saldanha Bakery. Food packets and gifts were distributed to all.
I just want to conclude by saying - Every time I attend a kids event at DI, I wish for my little son to grow up quickly so that I can see him run around and play such interesting games with the others!

[Editor's note: In our monthly library event we try to introduce a little social, physical, and intellectual activity. We watch the kids grow in discipline, team work and leadership as they handle Language, Maths, Science, Geography and History disguised as games, challenges and quizzes.
