Read to Me at the DI Library Author: Devanshi Kothari   Posted On: 18 Jan 2019

[Editor's Note:  We are so excited to receive this write up directly from Devanshi, who designed and conducted the first ever Read to Me session for toddlers at Books@DI.  Publishing it here in her own words.]

The first session of Read to Me by Books@DI was an evening of escape to the magical land of stories. Organised especially for toddlers between 2-5 years, the main idea behind it was to introduce kids who can’t even read, to the literary world. The Library was alive with enthusiastic kids expressing what stories they would like to hear … some wanted animal stories, some fairies and princesses and some ... ghost stories! And so, we did it all - from The Lion and The WolfBeauty and the BeastThe Little MermaidGhosts in Pensylvannia to The Lion King!

The amazing part was that the children were not just listening but were interacting throughout the session! Expressing what they felt, reacting to situations and asking lots and lots of questions!

The mothers appreciated the initiative and even recommended to make this a regular activity. “I am so glad to see my son enjoying so much! This is his first time he came at the Library at the club. He cant wait till next week!” smiled Julie Shah, mother of 4 year old Kanav. The kids were happy,in fact some left only when they were lied that the library was now closing.

[Editor's Note:  We asked Devanshi to give her opinion as the Reader of Read to Me.  This is what she says].

“I am just a regular mother who shares her passion for books by reading to my child everyday. And though I have read books to other kids before, this was my first time doing it as a recognized activity. The response was overwhelming and I enjoyed every bit of it.”
